Dear Readers,
If you attend a business writing course, you will almost certainly be taught to write in plain English.
To understand why you should write in plain English, you need to understand the primary aim of written business communication, which is to get your message across to your reader as quickly and easily as possible. You don’t want your reader to have to read through your document a number of times to understand it. If you write to impress readers with a complex written style, you will not achieve the primary objective of written communication.
Plain English is not baby English. Almost anything - from leaflets and letters to legal documents - can be written in plain English without being patronising or over-simple.
