Phrase

  • to produce good results, to succeed at something.
Example Sentence: Although the man works very hard in his small business he cannot make a go of it.
 

COMPANY TOWN kʌmpəni taʊn

Phrase

  • a town dominated by one industry or company.
Example Sentence: When the coal mine closed, the company town faced severe economic times.
 

CAPPED FEE kæpt fi

Noun

  • the maximum a company can charge for its services.
Example Sentence: The government has announced to cap tuition fees at $500 per month.
 

TO STICK TO THE POINT  

Phrase

  • to continue with a topic without changing it or digressing from it.
Example Sentence: Could you please stick to the point? We've been listening to you for long minutes now and you still haven't explained your real reasons.

Noun

  • an organisation or body that controls an area of industry and monitors its fair operation.
Example Sentence: The Spanish regulator has not released any details about the new tender for spectrums so far.
 

AILING eɪlɪŋ

Adjective

  • if the economy/a sector etc is ailing it is (relatively) weak and troubled.
Example Sentence: We are really lucky because we have severally financially ailing competitors, while our situation is relatively sound.
 

VENDOR vɛndər

Noun

  • someone who sells something.
Example Sentence: The street vendor offered a range of products made by local people.

Noun

  • Shares selling at less than $1 a share.
Example Sentence: Part of my investment portfolio is in penny stocks. I'm expecting some good news from one company very soon and I hope this will boost its stock price.

Phrase

  • Are funds owing to a business which are determined to be uncollectable.
Example Sentence: If you extend credit to numerous customers, and your experience is that a certain amount of your sales on account will be uncollectable, you should probably set up a reserve for bad debts.
 

TO VERIFY /vɛrəˌfaɪ/

Verb

  • to check or to make sure something is correct, like a signature or an amount of money.
Example Sentence: The teller verified his signature before giving him the money.
 

LAY OUT /leɪ aʊt/

Phrasal Verb

  • to spend money, especially a large amount.
Example Sentences: It's not every day you lay out $6000 on a holiday.
He's just laid out $3000 on a new HD television.
 

TO CALL IT QUITS

  • To call it quits is to stop doing something, or to agree with someone that a debt has been paid and that no one owes anything more.
Example Sentences: I reckon we owe you about the same as you owe us. Why don't we just call it quits?
I paid for last week's shopping and you paid for this week's, so let's call it quits.
 

PAYMENT TERMS /pā′mənt tʉrmz/

  • Conditions under which a seller will make a sale. Typically, these terms specify the period allowed to a buyer to pay off the amount due, and may demand cash in advance, cash on delivery, deferred payment period of 30 days or more, etc.
Example Sentences:According to our payment terms, invoices must be settled within 14 days.
We couldn’t accept their payment terms so we chose another supplier.
 

THIRD PARTY INSURANCE  

Noun

  • in an insurance contract, a person who is not the insurance company or the insured person, but who will receive money if they suffer loss or damage caused by the insured person.
Example Sentence: The policyholder is covered if they cause injury or damage to a third party.

Noun

  • a card or voucher allowing guests to have a free meal, drink, etc. in the hotel.
Example Sentence: You can use this complimentary pass to get one free drink at our Skyline bar on the 10th floor.
